You’ll learn how to read commercial patterns or create your own patterns that truly fit YOUR body and is based on YOUR design, and also all the parts of the garment-making process- beginning to end. Bring your ideas to life with real skill and confidence—no overwhelm, no guesswork.

How to handle your favorite power tool, your sewing machine!

Not only machine basics, but also the different uses for feet and different types of needles and when to use them.  I’ll show you around and then we’ll practice! Bring your own machine or rent one from me. Beginner, 2 hours  

Unlocking the Language of Clothing Patterns!

Wanna sew something awesome, but can’t read all those funny symbols and the general mayhem of instruction sheets?  Come join me for this beginner, 2 hour class and this language will be explained.  Bring a commercial pattern you want to try and fabric that could work for it.

Let’s Get Down To Basics: 

General Skills :  What’s the difference?  needles, thread, fabric and how and when to use them.  We will use your sewing machine to play with options to learn and feel the difference or you can use one of mine. Beginner, 2 hours.

Let’s talk about zips, baby:

A discussion about different types of zippers and how to install 1-2 properly. (Invisible, coil, teeth, which feet to use, etc). We will use your machine or you can use one of mine. Beginner, 2+ hours.

Survival sewing skills for the Zombie Apocalypse:

Hemming pants so you don’t trip & die, keeping your buttons on so you don’t get caught by a flailing sleeve, Taking in darts so your clothes stay closer to your body, etc.  Beginner, 2+ hours

Smack My Stitch Up

An over view and practice session for handstitches (hemming & repairing seams), simple embroidery & embellishment stitches along with learning how to securely attach closures like buttons, hook & eyes, Thread chains, etc. No machine needed. Beginner, 2 hours

Embellishing: Let’s Make it Next-Level!

Adding applique, embroidery, chains, jewelry, rhinestoning, buttons, etc.  Beginner, 2 hours

Turn it UP!! Upcycling basics

How to take in to fit, make a buttonhole, make darts, replace a zipper, add new elements or turn it into something else, rework, add embellishments.  You guide me on what you want to know (before the class)!

POCKETS!!

Pocket, pocket, whose got the pocket?  How to add hidden pockets to any garment, will also cover applying pockets to the outside of a garment.

Learn to confidently read and understand commercial sewing patterns—so you can finally bring your ideas to life without the confusion.

Description:

Wanna sew something amazing, but feel overwhelmed by all the symbols, markings, and instruction sheet chaos? This beginner-friendly class is designed to demystify the “language” of clothing patterns and give you the confidence to move forward with your projects.

In this session, IISHA will walk you through different types of sewing patterns and teach you how to decode symbols, choose the correct size, determine fabric requirements, and properly lay out your pattern pieces for cutting.

You’re encouraged to bring a pattern you’d love to make—so you can get hands-on guidance and leave with a clear path forward. IISHA will also touch on digital patterns for those interested in exploring modern sewing formats.

Class Level:

  • Beginner Friendly: No prior experience required

Includes:

  • Step-by-step guidance on reading sewing patterns

  • Instruction on sizing, fabric needs, and layout techniques

  • Overview of both printed and digital patterns

  • Personalized help with your selected pattern

What to Bring:

  • A clothing pattern you’d like to make

  • Fabric for your project

  • Paper scissors

  • Marking tool (pencil, pen, or marker)

  • Review your pattern “guidesheet” (instructions) beforehand and come with questions

Cinch It!! Corset Workshop

Learn the art of corsetry and create your own custom underbust waist-cincher—perfect for Ren-Faire season and beyond.

Description:

Come make yourself an underbust waist-cincher (approximately 7” tall) in this hands-on corset-making class. Designed for those with sewing experience, this class focuses on construction techniques specific to corsetry—including selecting the proper presser foot for creating clean, structured boning channels.

IISHA will guide you through the process while providing all essential internal structure components, so you can focus on bringing your design to life.

Class Level:

  • Intermediate Required: Students should already be comfortable using a sewing machine

Includes:

  • All interior structure materials provided:

    • Boning

    • Front busk

    • Grommets

  • Guidance on corset construction techniques

  • Option to bring your own “fashion” fabric & thread

  • Limited fabric options available on-site

What to Bring:

  • Sewing machine, scissors, and pins
    (Machines available to rent for $25 if needed)

  • Your preferred outer fabric & thread (optional)

Sizing Requirements:

Please send the following measurements prior to class so your materials can be prepared:

  • Underbust

  • Waist

  • High Hip

If unsure, IISHA will have a selection of general sizes available.
